Hi: Can you comment on the decision to place the new beams directly on the lintels of the door and window? This makes me feel like a lot of weight will be concentrated on a less than entirely strong surface. I know nothing about building but this stood out for me. Also, I like the idea of returning the downstairs fireplace to it's original size. But you can insert a woodburner in the middle and have the size of the fireplace be huge. I think it would make a statement - even if it took up a little extra room. Thank you, DA

Ay yi yi! So much soot in that fireplace!!! Good thing you looked and took down the loose brick. It also looks like they had a stove of some sort patched into it (that round spot). IDK what you have planned, but I'd put in wood stoves on both floors and run the pipe up as straight as possible. When they messed with the original design I'm betting they never got a decent draught for the fireplace. It is fantastic to see Shadow well and playing with the donkeys. They need so little in life. I'm sure he'll hang around, especially since you are feeding him and he knows it is safe at the chateau. Lincoln will have quite a bit of beam and noggin work to do while you are gone, Amanda. Or, maybe he'll sit with the donkeys and have a beer, and show the cats how to view the Birdfy. 🤞Wishing you all health and safe travels!

3:24 Great little spot for storing the patio furniture, flower pots, ... through the winter! Being able to store things close to where they are used is a real convenience. Besides, with a little roof on it, it will be quaint as well.

Hello. For centuries a layer of earth or clay was used as a weight on upstairs floors. This meant that the walls on each side of this floor was pulled inwards for stability. Don't mock it. It works. I know a student in Correze who worked on 16 century buildings that had used this tactic. Other restorershave found the same layers of earth on upper floors. Research it. Good luck. Judy

8:30 I had one interior stone wall I left exposed as well, after repointing it with a lime mortar. 14:5 Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if it had been a bigger fireplace, used for cooking, perhaps including a bread oven. And then later it was reduced down to a size just used for heating, with more modern cooking facilities elsewhere.

I was so happy to see shadow & I saw shadow seeing you ❤ Also my love for your donkeys is very strong. I wondering if you saw the story of the “rescued” wild burro in (I think) AZ who then escaped & just recently was seen a few years after his escape leading a pack of antelope (though I don’t know what kind is in AZ?) but I do know he was leading the pack - because as you know donkeys are fierce guardian animals and they will viciously attack even mountain lions, wild boar & bears. They are relentless & they have a photographic memory apparently. What has been perceived as stubborn is just smarts! Anyway - wild burros & wild horses in the States are under terrible threat from the BLM - it’s easy to read about it on Sky Dog Sanctuary there is a huge cobalt deposit right where the horses are wuddunt cha know - ya know the stuff we use in our phones and computers? And all of a sudden “horses are a huge threat” 🤔😳 weird

The amount of sweat equity that I have observed on UA-cam in the content from people who are restoring château is immense. One of the shows escaped to rural France is about a restoration of a burned out hulk. The amount of knowledge and effort in the work is immense. It is definitely not for the faint of heart. I hope you can keep your motivation and your economics working as you go through executing your plans. I imagine the cottage restoration is something you may use to generate income. Good luck.
